BACK PACKS, Twin Beds & the weekly Pre-and-Post Adoption Educational Support Group

BACK PACKS

With the generosity of the Unity Church of Reno, there are 100 back-to-school back packs ready for distribution to school age children in foster care.

Must be in 1st to 12th grade.
Foster Parents must bring Letter from Social Services.
Must present names and ages of foster youth in your home.

Back packs will be distributed on Wed evening of this week only. 6 to 8 pm at SAFF’s new location 940 Matley Lane Suite 8 Reno. ( off 395 and Mill ).

Also… if any one has twin beds they can temporarily donate to a foster family, pls call Victoria Bowers at WCSS ASAP.

This Tuesday evening 6:07:30… the weekly Pre-and-Post Adoption Educational Support Group. Has been great attendance in the past few weeks. RSVP SAFF 828-9977 if you are bringing children. Respite provided. 1240 H. Street in Sparks at the RAVE building ( a fence playground allows us to provide respite).

And, mark you calendars for the Big Halloween event on Thursday and Friday Oct 21 and 22 at the Damonte Ranch High School. A benefit for educational opportunities and activities for youth in foster care!!!! AN EVENING WITH EDGAR ALLAN POE. Over 60 children and teens ( from Damonte Ranch High School and Tiffany Story Choir, along with adults, will be performing Halloween songs, the play NEVERMORE, and THE GHOSTS OF EDGAR ALLAN POE. ) Teamworks Consulting has already donated 20 collector items of books, recordings, etc. of Poe memorabilia for the silent auction. Refreshments galore. Promises to be a sold out event for both nights. Reservations will begin in a few weeks. It will be an entertaining and educational Halloween community fundraiser for the youth in foster care.

Featuring seasonal and holiday songs by Tiffany Story Children’s Choir

A 25 minute theatre performance THE GHOSTS OF EDGAR ALLAN POE

A 70 minute theatre performance NEVERMORE ( from the horror story THE RAVEN), performed by the drama students of Damonte Ranch High School.

A silent auction of Edgar Allan Poe collectors’ items and memorabilia donated by Team Works Consulting and Life Coaching.

A major Halloween event for the entire community. Proceeds will benefit SAFF’s programs for the education of youth in foster care.

Two evenings of great Halloween fun and theatre. Promises to be a sold out event.

Pre/Post Adoption Support Group Starts Tuesday!

  • Feeling frustrated?

  • Not sure is adoption is the right thing for you?

  • Have adopted and feel like giving up?


Let us help you!

When does the support group start? Starting this Tuesday, August 3rd and every Tuesday following this through September 21st.

What time is it? 6:00 – 7:30pm

Where is it located? RAVE Family Center 1260 H Street, Sparks, Nevada

Do I have to attend every meeting? No, it would be to your benefit to do so, however, we understand that foster and adoptive families have very busy schedules.

Do you provide childcare? Yes, we will be able to accommodate thirty children on a reservation basis.

No Child Left Behind in collaboration with Family Counseling Services, Sierra Association of Foster Families, RAVE Family Center and the Division of Child and Family Services is hosting the first pre/post adoption support group.  The group will be led by licensed therapist Susan Patterson and focus on attachment and relationships with bio and adoptive families, loss and grief issues, transitions and triggers, behavioral intervention strategies, respite and medical services and communication with social services.  This group is completely confidential and is for the benefit of families in need of support services and collaboration with other families who have the same concerns.  Need additional information, questions or concerns , please feel free to contact me. I look forward to meeting you and providing a service that is essential to the outcome of successful adoptions.
